Proposal

During the first year of the course, we have experimented on the essentials of game design. I have gained extended knowledge about games as I researched into them through primary and secondary research. I have also developed basic skills of programming with Construct, as well as artistic productions with Piskel and traditional drawing. In our previous project, Another World, it gave us a fresh start to the essentials of games design, but with advanced technology such as Unity, Photoshop and Illustrator. With these skills combined, especially research; they will be help me develop further with knowledge and inspiration from practitioners – especially when experimenting their style of work.

The skills I would like to develop further are art and writing – as they are the topics I enjoy participating and would like to advance the understanding of them.

Section 1: Review

The specialisms I will be researching and pursuing are art and writing because of the enjoyment of developing with the creation as well as feeling them emotionally. I also chosen these roles because I would like to pursue with them further in university and then as a career.

For art, the following practitioners I will be researching are Ross Tran, Frederic Remington, and Jordan Grimmer. And for experimentation research, I will be exploring the processes of Ross Tran’s style of artwork. For this, I will be experimenting his method of creating a new original character, and then showing that journey through his style of a portfolio that I will use as reference.

And for writing, I will be conducting case studies about J.K. Rowling, and Apex Legends – and possibly adding to League of Legends. For experimental research, I will be exploring the writing styles of J.K. Rowling’s description of an introduced character, and the back stories and biographies of one of the champions of League of Legends.  League of Legends also includes short stories for each character to add more insight for the audience to connect with.

For both of these specialisms, I will be creating an original character of my own with these experimentation – so essentially, I will be developing further for this character of mine. With the art experimentation, this is my method of creating a portfolio.

Section 2: Project concept

I will be reflecting on my personal work by exploring the styles and skills from one of the practitioners I chose for art and writing. I will be recording my work by using screenshots and explanations about my decisions, opinions and experiences as I experimented – as well as evaluating about the overall project. For specific programs on how I will record my work, I will be using Google Docs and then paste the work onto my Wix website.
